Hello, and welcome to Polar Diaries—a space where the mysteries of the Earth’s polar regions and beyond come alive through the power of storytelling.

I’m Dr.Shalaka Kiran Patil, a polar scientist, micro-ecologist and nature admirer, who has spent years researching the hidden worlds beneath Arctic ice and permafrost on Svalbard. But beyond the data, what captivates me most are the stories—of perseverance, discovery and beauty—that these extraordinary regions hold. These stories don’t belong to any one person; they belong to all of us. That’s why I created Polar Diaries: to bring your stories from the Arctic and Antarctic to the world and create a space for connection, curiosity and inspiration.
